Steps work on Photoshop 4:

fresh layer > type selection “a” > set foreground color costume wood-like and background color white > Filter/Render/Clouds > Filter/Noise/Add noise > Filter/Blur/Motion blur > Filter/Sharpen/Sharpen > Layer/Effect/Shadow or on the same type selection make a new layer beneath this one using feather on your selection and set transparency.
