noi vorbim româneşte!

Şiu că, din mulțime, tocmai eu fac tot felul de “paste” din limba română sau limbajul meu zilnic, cu vorbe din engleză, semi-engleză, sau pur şi simplu îmbârligate din lipsă de ocupație, de genul “cârnaț” în loc de “târnaț”, ori “inestin” în loc de “destin”, sau “density – dens city – pence city – stance city” în loc de numele înghețatei “Destiny”, sau “be white black” în loc de “be right back”, sau “all white” în loc de “alright” .. mă rog, înțelegeți ideea.

Dar înapoi la limba română, nu am fost prea fericit să vad acest reportaj cum că tineretul de azi ar avea limbajul lor.. diferit, limbaj care cică ar cere introducerea unor cuvinte de genul naşpa, marfă, mozol, şi altele în DEX. (erau nişte liceeni bucureşteni intervievați).

Am văzut la Rady, care a văzut pe un blog Ice World acest mesaj (de aici) care vreau să îl împart şi eu mai departe în norişori:

E timpul sa conduc!

M-am săturat de autobuze îmburzite, după ce şi aştepți sosirea lor întârziată şi frânele cu toată lumea pe spate şi scaunele murdare şi cineva din spate să-mi tuşească pe ceafă ca sa ma întreb de unde am luat gripa de iarna asta. Parcă sunt la o vârstă la care prefer plimbările să le fac din plăcere, iar bicicletele zac cu roțile sparte de prea mult timp – semn ca m-am cam săturat şi de bicicletă.

Mai rapid, mai eficient la urgențe, mai distractiv, mai independet. It’s bloody time! Sure va fi un compromis cumpărarea unei maşini, ne-am gânit la VW, dar ne-am dat seama că merită.

confession – poetry?

I used to write like.. poetry stuff when I was in high-school.. in English.. Yeah, I know it sounds wicked but I did.. burned them though after finishing high-school – i know, dramatic, I roll that way it seems. Kept only one that I had send to a site poetry.com

I don’t remember exactly, but I think it was like a contest to get your poetry published in a compilation named “The sound of poetry”. So, the way I got to keep it was that they had send a letter back to me with the poem asking me to approve to publish it by sending it back with any corrections. But I didn’t send it.. for some reason.. Here it is.

Otherwise.. I guess lately I didn’t think of writing anything or expressing my self much, in such ways I mean. I guess the main reason for that is because at one point I started to listen music instead of just hearing it. I get so high when I find a song.. I’ll give you an example, the current most played in the list, the song is Yael Naim’s New soul. The one before this one is Semisonic’s Closing time, which is still among most played too – love the lyrics, they make such a difference, they influence a lot how I like or if I like a song.

thoughts on internet and life (edited)

The internet: so called “cloud” as i would like to call it “of all possibilities“. Sure there are some bad sides of it too. But from keeping in touch to getting information, making money and entertainment it never ceases to surprise me. You could call it Santa’s sack of information or a well oiled money making machine or (my favorite) “a bridge of communication“.

Although I find nifty the possible resources of entertainment on the internet, I personally mainly use it for keeping in touch – communicating, work and information. Unfortunately, most of the time, I can only keep in touch with my dearest and closest ones from the distance, this giving me the options: phone and Internet. Since the phone way is way more expensive and limited I’ve excluded it almost completely. But the internet does way more for me because, in these conditions of distance, another thing that would be affected without it would be my.. (I’ll call it for now) identity.. and this not only for the ones I can’t keep in touch directly and even more not only in a personal matter but also professionally, but also very much keeping track and understanding – expressing and evolving my identity for my self.

Why do i think this? Because I find a thought very valuable, even more a thought written extends it’s value and remains to complete further thoughts precisely thus actually evolving, and even more, a thought shared is even a greater value.Now I know that many thoughts can have different values sliding from positive to negative but sharing them can only be good because, beyond the actual update about it’s author, it also can make the receivers be aware of a new information or even better a new value or by the wonderful possibility of interaction upon ones thought (comments) the author can learn if the values in his thought are true or false or can learn more value in it. The possibilities are endless.Otherwise I often look upon technology news from sites like NY Times, All things Digital (Wall Street Journal), Linux.org and others, and so I came upon this interesting article “Apple vs. Microsoft vs. Linux: Good vs. Evil and Do You Really Care?” and from which I found a link to another article”Recognising Good And Evil” which is on a site in which I’m personally going to go trough the links inside it and actually is what I just had to share and got all the lines above in the process.A piece of an article from this site, “The Retreat From Reason“:

“Prejudice, a desire to accept a belief for personal reasons, is a very powerful threat to comprehension. It will not only prevent an idea being considered but also corrupt the ability of our senses to detect evidence to the contrary.”

Edit: in this article I found, at the paragraph Absurd Results Of Silly Laws the statement “Prejudice is part of the human condition; to attempt to correct it by legislation is to enter into fantasy” supported by the following case:

On November 27/11/95, Samuels Real Estate Pty Ltd of Dubbo, central NSW, was ordered to pay $6,000 damages to an aboriginal woman who was told the firm had no flats available. This was moments before her white friend was offered a flat. In its decision the NSW Equal Opportunity Tribunal found that the firm unlawfully discriminated against 31 years old Jennifer Lamb on August 16th, 1993. This penalty is the result of the anti-discrimination legislation, the existence of which is undeniable evidence that the community is stupid.

To this paragraph I find an exaggeration, or at least an important overlook, upon great importance of such ways (as the law) that can “make” the people coexist with and consider each-other in-spite of their prejudice. Of-course I agree that maybe it should not be as penalties such as in the case which is indeed sort of abomination. Still, racial differences and discriminations, actually any kinds of discriminations should be corrected and solutions included in the law (but indeed reason should be minded) and programs and such to make a more valuable line between where one is discriminating and making personal choice of own concern, like it makes sense to refuse a different skin colored person a service for the same reason you would refuse a same skin color person (and you better mention that reason or you could get misunderstood), but it’s not ok to refuse services to a person which only differs the color of the skin from another person whom you would accept. Personally i think it’s bad image and business, lack of reason and ethic values, and much more. This is serious and unfortunately those that feel and act this way need a little push to get them to a stage where they have to at least “try” to consider their prejudice or at least “try” to get use to the idea that it’s consider bad and will affet it’s image in society and possibly suffer penalties.

Looks like I’ve made a mistake in my $ 10,000 list. It might pass the titled sum, I’m not sure, I could make a compromise to restrain to the sum (if I had it ant nothing more).

The mistake was when I confused (somehow) the xD and xxD Canon cameras as which is semi-pro and which is entry-level. Looking at the 40D now it’s all much much clearer.

the $ 10,000 experiment

It started by mistake. At first I had my messenger status “give me $ 10,000” and realized people were evasive when I wanted to say hi. A friend had trouble with the status link not displaying and I told him to try mine (and gave it to him). At this point I realized: “wow, wouldn’t it be fun to see if I convince some friends to set the status as experiment off course and if they see it interesting and fun to convince other people. Now I’m curious how far will it get and how long will it last.

Thak you all! It’s been fun and is cool to still see some of the status. I don’t have a big list and I can’t tell what happend outside it (if anything did). About 70 % of my available list had the status and that alonewas a cool feeling seeing then show up one by one, I thing I got 12 or 13 contacts in the list to se it.

Maybe the cartoons seamed silly in their first 2 minutes or so but it gets way better till the end, and the length is only 7 minutes or so, and got high rates at Youtube too, and it would really get you a close feeling of the ambiguity in the start of this quest of mine to get $10,000. :o)

i and the UI history (second try)

The first thing I remember is, when I started the machine, I had gotten what was then for me a blank screen with a possible error. Thus I had a sudden feeling of guilt – as I might have broken it, and also because I think I had sneaked in the room to play with the computer too. So you can imagine the slight feeling of panic that came upon me at the moment. It was DOS.. And I had no idea what happened so I quickly turned it back off and left the room in silence.
The second time i was a bit smarter, I saw my brother type a command which made it all start and then appeared “Windows” .. So next time I tried: maybe the command is “windows”! No.. maybe “start windows”? ..no .. maybe “go windows” (i remembered something with an “o”) .. maybe .. oh, I gave up.
But the next time my brother turned it on i looked carefully to see what he did for the machine to work and saw it! “win.com”! And as I typed that command the third time, before me, on that 14″ full of colour 640×480 monitor I finally saw “Windows 3.1” – Yes! Victory!

i and the UI history

I had an attempt.. which got stumbled on lack of whatever.. it had good intentions.. I guess. I left the try beneath..

I’ve started my PC experience with a 386 computer, with 1Mb of RAM a quarter of a Mb video on board, running Ms DOS and Windows 3.1
That computer was meant for my my brother who actually knew something about it and was starting high-school in a computer science oriented class. I wasn’t yet in my teens and knew pretty much no more English than okay, are you ok?, no, good or some language similarities like start, stop, button, install and maybe others.
Maybe I had heard about it or saw something on tv which at that time i have no idea how much I had understood, but there it was and so I’ve started to see and understand the hardware and software theory thing, the operating system thing. I’ve started to get into settings, installing, personalizing and strangely enough only later editing and later on starting to ponder about the creating part.

dilema unui om de rând..

În aproximativ.. mai puțin de două săptămâni voi avea ultima şansă de a mă decide..  :

Să ne luăm monitor LCD wide Samsung SM206BW (20″) sau  LG L206WTQ-BF (tot 20″) sau poate chiar LG L226WTQ-BF (22″) sau este defapt ceva care ne-ar m-ar mulțumi şi mai mult. Mai jos sunt configurațiile (mai relevante) afişate de producători, puse pentru a le compara.

Ce aş vrea defapt e un monitor de

*20″  – nu ma supăr dacă e de 22″ atât cât merită prețul sau doar la 22″ are exact ce vreau.. totuşi într-o limită

*wide/rez. 1650×1050 – nici asta nu mă supăr dacă e mai mult însă doar la 22″

*ecranul glossy –  precum şi la noile iMac dar nu de-aia ci pentru că notebookul lui Monica are aşa ecranul şi îmi place mai mult  – totuşi nu prea găsesc :o(

*contrast dinamic 3000:1  ( se simte diferența şi aş crăpa de ciudă de nu – aşa crapă vecinu’ – kidding)

*viteză răspuns 2ms – .. trebe’

*contează şi lookul  dar mai ales culorile şi gradient banding-ul

Nu am găsit glossy.. asta este (I guess) . Am găsit în schimb monitoarele menționate mai sus. Acum, am găsit o grămadă de reviewuri despre cel de la Samsung, însă doar câteva păreri pe forumuri pentru LG..

Samsung e ceva mai scump, arată super, are premii, totul fain în afară că este produs în trei serii (A, C şi S) şi sunt diferențe vizibile la ele -mai ales cu setările din fabrică şi e posibil să mă trezesc cu oricare din ele când ajunge pachetul. Eu vreau S. Pe langă asta cică nu e chiar perfect cu  gradient banding-ul dar e superior față de toate LCD-urile (cică) testate de toți ce i-am găsit. Totuşi nu am găsit şi review la LG..

LG e mai ieftin,  e lăudat pe forumuri, specificațiile sunt cam la fel, nu e aşa de stilat, are un bonus  că se poate regla poziția monitorului şi pe vertical, față de Samsung care nu se poate (deşi nu ştiu dacă o să am nevoie..) şi aş găsi probabil şi varianta de 22″ la prețul cu care aş fi luat Samsungul de 20″ ..

Dar nu am siguranța că LG e aşa de bun ca Samsung, am văzut câteva LG-uri în magazine până acum (nu care vroiam pentru că nu găsesc pe stoc decât mai slabe) şi au o imagine cam slabă.. mai slabă decât alte mărci de monitoare de aceaşi configurație (cum ar fi Philips – dar Philips are reviewuri mai slabe.. ) ..

Care să-l iau? Sau ştie cineva vre-un alt monitor să-mi recomande în aceeaşi arie de cost ca astea?

Din cauză că nu am net la fostul servici ce ceva vreme, nu am putut să-mi prea urmăresc feedurile, dar acum că am apucat, am găsit leapşa primită de la Silviu, care a primit-o de la Marius, care a primit-o de la Radu.. şi cum puteam tocmai eu să zic ho..?

welcome to “Linux”

Răsfoirea prin Apple’s Macworld mi-a creat o poftă.. mare – mare. Însă deoarece, cel puțin deocamdată, nu pot să fac parte (aşa cum aş vrea) din familia Mac sau lumeaMac; am rămas totuşi cu o poftă de mai bine, sau măcar diferit. Cărarea către Macworld sper să mi-o bat, defapt să mi-o pavez frumos (şi cu pomişori frumoşi şi stâlpi cu felinare sau cu neoane cu plasmă, şi floricele şi fluturaşi şi licurici seara şi broaşte țestoase eventual..iepuraşi..) treptat odată cu experiența şi evoluția profesională.

Între timp însă mi-am scos dopurile Windows din ureche şi am ascultat însfârşit Linux. Sweet! La început m-am uitat prin snapshot-uri la O’Reilly. Apoi am downloadat un Live CD. Inițial mă încurcam şi ofticam din cauza diferențelor aparent complicate în navigarea prin sistem. Apoi am căutat alte distribuți şi am îndrăznit să încep să instalez.

Am prins gustul, începusem să downloadez distribuții şi să le instalez şi să mă joc cu ele. Why not, la urma urmei sunt gratis. Mi-am saturat pofta de diferit şi chiar mai mult, am găsit şi mai bine. Am o droaie de distribuții pe CD-uri sau DVD-uri şi pe hard-disk că am decis să-mi iau ReWritable-uri.

Vroiam acest post să-l scriu de pe Linux însă acum dibui cum să şi folosesc diacriticele (că le văd ok) în blog, dar nu am mai avut răbdare şi aştept să-mi downloadeze o nouă distribuție şi apoi voi începe din nou.

Am până acum distribuțiile: KNOPPIX, Zenwalk Linux 4.2, Ubuntu 6.10, Kubuntu 6.10, Fedora Core 6, Sun Wah 1.5r2, Myah OS 2.3 SE, Mandriva 2007, Ubuntu 5.4 (primit cadou), Mandrake 10.2, Freespire şi am downloadat şi Sun’s Solaris. Încă nu le-am instalat chiar pe toate. Acum termină de downloadat openSUSE 10.2 şi aşteaptă Debian.

“yurning for a simpler age of simply better ideas”

Mă mai tot uit şi mai caut mai multe despre Apple şi Windows (nu le-am încurcat companie – produs) şi prin ramificații ajung şi la alte companii, alte produse.. mă prinde.

Am început să mă uit pe situri (pe langă apple.com, wikipedia.com, youtube.com şi veşnicul google.com) ca noheat.com, ocazional softpedia.com (făcut de românaşi) şi whashingtonpost.com unde l-am găsit pe Steve Wozniak că a fost online recent deschis la întrebări. Nice!

Am dat de postul acesta pe noheat.com şi am început să mă întreb cum stau defapt acum lucrurile, mi-ar place să pot fi la curent cu ce se întâmplă într-un mod mai direct, să-mi dau seama pe pielea mea ce se mai întâmplă, mă simt ca şi cum aş privi totul la TV.. Mi-ar place să îmi dau seama LIVE că “Oau!”. Mi-ar place să fi trăit experieța apariției Macului..

Acum, pe de-o parte (cel puțin pe lângă PC-ul care mi-l am permis să mi-l iau din piața disponibilă pe aici – de banii ăia luam un Mac mai modest dar mă gândeam atunci că nu mi-aş permite sau găsi compatibilie ce vreau să flosesc pe PC aşa de uşor sau deloc pe piață pe aici). Ce am văzut pe site la apple.com şi în filmulețele de la MacWorld de pe youtube.com a avut “oaul” lor (mai ales când mi-am dat seama de data lansării şi ce am găsit şi ştiu că era pe piața atunci din partea Microsoft de exemplu), dar în altă parte aflu că Macurile nu se mai prea cumpară în ultimul timp (am fost indus in erore de o ştire) şi acțiunile Apple cresc mai ales cu produsele ce vor fi lansate.. Am văzut câteva filmulețe pe youtube cum le-a crăpat MacBook Pro-ul după o săptâmănă de la cumpărare dar pe de altă parte lumea (inclusiv pe youtube) zice că Macurile cu CPU Intel Core 2 Duo rup totul, apare şi Adobe CS3 în primăvară făcut să meargă frumos mai ales pe Macurile noi şi multe altele care mă fac să încerc să îmi schimb până şi interfața sistemului de operare ca a Macului.. într-adevăr parcă îți vine să lingi ecranul :-) cel puțin în comparație cu Windows (am pus beta 2 de Vista dar nu a fost mare reacție şi îmi mânca resurse că nu am avut răbdare să caut driverele plăci.. mă rog avea de unde să mănânce dar mai vroiam să hrănesc şi alte aplicații flămânde.. să fie aşa şi cu Mac OSX? ..îmi vine să nu prea cred, dar defapt habar nu am).

într-o pauză de masă la serviciu..

A, am început să cresc un interes pentru Macintosh şi Mac OSX. Sunt putin maniac în ultimul timp. M-am uitat pe youtube.com la filmulete de la Macworld (sweet), am găsit “Pirates of Silicon Vally” şi am început să mă uit la mai multe filmulețe pe youtube cu Steve Jobs, mi-a plăcut foarte mult să găsesc lansarea Macintosh 1984 şi reclama TV de atunci pentru el, apoi să revăd filmarea de la Macworld 1997 după ce am aflat toate informațiile astea (cam tarziu).. oau.. am început să caut mai multe filmări de la Macworld.. uuuu.. I gotta get me one of these! Am văzut printre altele şi filmulețul cu speechul lui Steve Jobs care de asemenea m-a impresionat.. M-am trezit într-o lume în care într-adevăr pot să fac diferența prin pasiune în ceea ce fac, un nivel de conştiență asupra ceea ce fac şi sunt şi un gust pentru perspective de adevărate valori de mai bine.. or something :-)

Am participat şi noi la maratonul foto organizat aici în Iaşi de Centrul Cultural Francez. Au fost peste patru sute de participanți, de la copii cu câte un Canon Powershot (al părinților probabil) sau un aparat clasic simplu, până la supărați cu SLR-uri şi obiective şi trepiede la cingătoare (literalmente :).

Toți am fost împărțiti în două grupe: fotografie clasică şi fotografie digitală. Ne-am încadrat în cea de-a doua folosind Pentaxul OptioS. Maratonul a durat 12 ore şi a avut 12 teme pe care le primeam câte 4 din 4 în patru ore, începând la 9 dimineața până la 9 seara.

Acestea au fost temele: 2006, ora 12 fix, verde, francofonie, Bahlui (un râu în Iaşi – aproape de unde stăm noi), labirint, relexe, fotomaraton, aotuportret, interzis, sărbătorile oraşului şi amintiri din coplilărie.

Pozele vor fi publicate la Centrul Cultural şi probabil şi pe situl acestuia.

Am stat tolănit pe tuşă pe mai multe planuri dintre care cele mai importante profesional şi tehnologic, aş putea zice chiar planul social era foarte limitat. Dar luna aceasta, după stresul precedent sponsorizat de situația cu mutatul – care a sfârşit în: nu ne mai mutăm şi ce bine, însfârşit ne-am revenit şi am făcut cu mai mult sau mai puțin ajutor (@) primul pas depărtare de tuşă. De acum depinde chiar numai de noi, de mine mai ales in cazul ăsta.
